If you’re a growing company in need of a talented workforce to manage your growth, where do you turn to for help?
If you’re Carlisle Syntec, you turn to PA CareerLink® Cumberland County.
Carlisle Syntec held hiring fair at SCPa Works’ Cumberland County offices earlier this month to help fill twenty open positions. Five human resource representatives set up shop at the PA CareerLink® and provided one-on-one interviews for the job seekers that attended the event. 55 job seekers attended the event in the hopes of landing a production position with at starting hourly wage of $15.00 per hour with a pay progression to $21.37 per hour after 18 months of employment. Twenty job seekers were chosen to advance to the next step of Syntec’s hiring process, which entails WorkKeys skills assessment. At the employer’s request, PA CareerLink® staff schedule and administer the WorkKeys skills assessment to individuals chosen by the employer. WorkKeys skills assessment is a three hour test which is conducted onsite at the PA CareerLink®.
Why do employers use WorkKeys?
WorkKeys is a skills assessment system that helps employers select, hire, train, develop, and retain a quality workforce. The assessments measure foundational and soft skills.
WorkKeys assessments measure skills that employers feel are essential to success in the workplace. Students, job seekers, and seasoned professionals can use WorkKeys to learn more about their strengths and weaknesses and gain a valid way to demonstrate their abilities to employers. Educators and employers can use it to help take the guesswork out of determining student, applicant, and employee qualifications.
Successful completion of WorkKeys assessments in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information, and Reading for Information can lead to earning the National Career Readiness Certificate™ (NCRC®), a portable credential earned by more than 3 million people across the United States.
Targeted Approach to Hiring
As part of our commitment to providing value-add workforce development services to our regional employers, this hiring fair is a targeted approach to solving critical human resource needs that differs from a typical job fair. Hiring fairs provide employers with a group of job seekers that have been pre-screened and selected to attend the event based on their interests, skill sets and assessment tests.
Job seekers who are successful in completing the WorkKeys assessment are advanced to the final phase of the hiring process which is a group interview at Carlisle Syntec’s facility in Carlisle, PA. As part of our suite of employer-related services, PA CareerLink® Cumberland County will continue to work with Carlisle Syntec to follow-up on this project for further training needs, retention and additional human resource support.
We are looking forward to helping Carlisle Syntec and other regional employers to find the talented workforce they need to continue to grow.
